Outcomes
Open Committee Meeting – Shortboarding and Groms
8th July 2020

Competitions:

  • 4 Club comps
  • Interclub Comp with Mahia and Hawke’s Bay Boardriders
  • OPSM Tairawhiti Junior Surf Champs
  • Sticky Johnson Primary School Champs

Expression sessions:
Great feedback, good participation, great value. It was agreed to run more of these. 2-3 hours videoed sessions with food/pizzas afterwards. Parent helper needed for videoing and food if possible.

Scholastics:
Club and parents, who attended meeting, decided to not support 2020 Kaikoura scholastics and have a reset for a better future. Reasons being: Lack of interest from groms for South Island trip (only 5 out of 14 keen to go), costs and last year’s developments. Parents are welcome to take their kids of course.

Club will focus on 2021 and develop a new framework for Scholastics. Therefore, we will meet in September 2020 to discuss criteria and requirements for 2021.

We ask all parents to join us and develop a strategy together.

Grom Training:
Club is keen to continue developing a pathway for groms, but needs more help from parents or keen businesses/ individuals to collaborate. Rippers (learn to surf for 6-12yr olds) and potentially a developing grom squad after Rippers will continue to run.
